Specialist photography as a career option
17th July 2011
If you like taking pictures and having an eye for detail, a career in a specialized photo for you. While all photographers must develop the same basic skills early in their careers when they were controlled, many going to specialize in a specific area of photography such as fashion, medical, forensic or wildlife .
Fashion photographers are working mainly for promotional purposes. Their work appears in newspapers and public awareness campaigns. The emphasis is on clothing and accessories and how to show them a great impression. Often this relates to exotic locations and studio work, and still photographs are required to show the ‘story’ and not just a shot of a model wearing designer clothes. This genre can be further subdivided into fashion photography, lingerie and swimwear, fashion photography and celebrity portraits (including photography music).
Medical Imaging (medical illustrations and medical imaging) is the process of creating images of the human body for clinical purposes. It would be used to diagnose diseases or other conditions or medical science to demonstrate and study the anatomy and normal function. The most common form of medical imaging performed by radiologists. You are responsible for providing pictures and a few times to perform minimally invasive medical procedures such as endoscopy, where a small camera on the end of a fiber optic cable is inserted inside the patient.
There are many ways to produce medical images, even when fluoroscopic images in real time of the internal organs are recorded using substances such as barium or iodine, where the gamma camera nuclear medicine are used in conjunction with a short-lived isotope to record the biological activity particularly associated with the disease, X-ray projection most commonly known as X-rays and ultrasound is used to show the fetus in pregnant women. Ultrasound can also be used to study the internal abdominal organs, the male genitalia and leg veins.
Forensic photography is the practice of documenting the crime scene, victims, suspects and convicted criminals and other tests to assist in investigations and convictions. The first pictures of the prisoners captured in Belgium and Denmark in mid-1800, as an experiment. In 1870, professional photographers used to take pictures of the prisoners, but no specific training or standards imposed. In 1890, AlphonseBertillon published the first standard of forensic photography, said the subject should be well lit and photographed from the front and in profile, with visible ear.
Crime Scene Photography (including photos of the victim or victims) uses lighting, camera angles, and the view of forensic photographers to record crime scenes. A growing field of forensic photographers use infared, and ultraviolet light to improve the documentation of the screen. The victim is an important part of the documentation of forensic photography, and requires compassion and sensitivity, and the photographer and a high level of discretion. The photograph autopsy is another aspect of forensic photography. This focuses on close-ups to distinguish the traces of the victim’s body such as scars or tattoos, as well as wounds, teeth marks, and anything else that might help the cause of death or identify the victim.
Wildlife and nature photography is a genre more than the digital cameras of superior quality are becoming more readily available to the public. Nature photographs are published in scientific journals, travel and cultural manufacturers of greeting cards, and prints and posters. There is an emphasis on the aesthetic value of each image in nature photography than in other genres. Shape, texture, color, close-up, and natural elements such as plants, animals, land or submarine are explored in this form of photography. Technical capacity is also high, with the knowledge developed on equipment and techniques appropriate for each location or topic to get the best image. A love for animals and the outside is essential for this kind of work because it can lead to long waits in cramped, cold and wet.
Graduates often start as an assistant or young photographers in their field, or as independent freelancers. In fashion photography, photographers can become as famous as the models and the clothes on his photography, but other photographers rarely recognized outside of their field. Medical and forensic photographers should be comfortable with stressful situations, and usually a lot of attention to detail.
Most important for all photographers is a portfolio of good potential. This should display a series of images, not only within a specific genre. This helps to have a small selection (between 5 and 15 images) available in a CD. This may be submitted with applications for college courses and college. You are expected to become familiar with different genres of photography and photographers and their work.
Getting a job in a specialized field of photography is often the result of years of dedication and application. However, the opportunities for those interested in photography are potentially larger and more lucrative than many other arts subjects.
